I'm not going to use your email address for anything except to possibly help you reset your password in the future. So don't worry about that.
And your password is encrypted by Django, so I don't know what it is. Thus, if you forget, my only recourse to help you is to reset it for you. If I can't confirm your email address, then I'm not going to reset your password. How do I know it's really you?
All that said, the reason you have to create an account is because every feature of the site is personal; there's nothing you can do here without being logged in. The upshot for you once you have an account is that everything you enter is private. Nobody is able to see anything you type.
